01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
About this place
A short walk from Ichigaya Station, Sushitaiko sits quietly among residential streets. The restaurant is also known as a favourite of the late baseball manager Katsuya Nomura, and memorabilia connected with him is displayed inside. Despite that history, it feels welcoming rather than imposing: the warm atmosphere created by the chef and his wife makes it easy for first-time visitors to settle in.
At lunchtime, people who work nearby come for nigiri and chirashi. The menu includes nigiri, limited-quantity bara chirashi and anago rice bowls. There are also playful options such as omu chirashi, along with a variety of rice bowls, including aburi bowls topped with white fish and scallop, and a salmon-and-ikura oyakodon. There is plenty to choose from.
In the evening, it is a good place to enjoy fish such as white fish alongside beer or sake. The easygoing exchanges across the counter are part of the appeal, capturing the straightforward pleasures of a traditional sushi restaurant.
